The Weeknd postpones his album Hurry Up Tomorrow and cancels its release concert to prioritize wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles.

Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd has delayed the release of his highly anticipated album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, and canceled its launch concert at the Rose Bowl in response to the devastating wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles County. Originally scheduled for January 24, the album will now be released on January 31.

A Heartfelt Decision

“Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, I am canceling the Rose Bowl concert originally scheduled for January 25th,” the artist shared in a heartfelt statement on social media. “This city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time.”

In the same statement, The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, expressed his dedication to supporting recovery efforts. “In light of this, I have also decided to push the release of my album to January 31st. My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding its incredible people as they rebuild.”

Singles, Collaborations, and an Upcoming Film

Fans have already gotten a taste of the album with singles like “Dancing in the Flames,” “Timeless” featuring Playboi Carti, and “São Paulo” with Anitta. Adding to the excitement, The Weeknd announced a forthcoming film tied to the album. Starring Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan, the movie is set to debut on May 16 through Lionsgate.

A Farewell to The Weeknd Persona

In a recent Variety cover story, Tesfaye revealed that Hurry Up Tomorrow will be his final album released under The Weeknd moniker. While this marks the end of an era, he assured fans that he’s not leaving music altogether. “I don’t think I can stop doing that. But everything needs to feel like a challenge. And for me right now, The Weeknd, whatever that is, it’s been mastered. No one’s gonna do The Weeknd better than me, and I’m not gonna do it better than what it is right now. I think I’ve overcome every challenge as this persona, and that’s why I’m really excited about this film, because I love this challenge.”

The decision to postpone the album and cancel the concert underscores The Weeknd’s commitment to using his platform to make a meaningful impact during a time of crisis. As fans eagerly await the album’s release, the artist continues to inspire through both his music and his actions.
