"Look up here, I’m in Heaven" says the verses of David Bowie’s latest single Lazarus. The glam rock legend, singer and songwriter died peacefully at 69, and we do hope he’s at ease now, in Heaven. After struggling with cancer, his death was confirmed last night, January 10th by his rep.
"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief," it says the statement posted on the artist's official social media accounts.
David Bowie influenced the pop-rock stage since 1972, when he debuted The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, an album that fostered the notion of rock star as space alien, until very recently on January 8th, 2016 when he released Blackstar, his newest album which is now to be his very last one.
Some of his memorable songs include 1983’s “Let’s Dance” — his only other No. 1 U.S. hit — “Space Oddity,” “Heroes,” “Changes,” “Under Pressure,” “China Girl,” “Modern Love,” “Rebel, Rebel,” “All the Young Dudes,” “Panic in Detroit,” “Fashion,” “Life on Mars,” “Suffragette City” and a 1977 Christmas medley with Bing Crosby.
He is survived by wife, the model Iman, whom he married in 1992; his son, director Duncan Jones; and daughter Alexandria.
Below you can watch the music video for David’s latest single Lazarus, a Johan Renck-directed clip that is pretty much disturbing to see (even harder to watch now after recent news). David Bowie is seen in a hospital room, with his eyes bandaged and gets agitated in his bed.
