Nordic pop icon MØ is back and bolder than ever with her upcoming album, Plæygirl, set to drop on May 16. The Danish trailblazer teased her return with an electrifying club night at London’s Lexington last week, hinting at the vibrant new era she’s stepping into.
Following the success of last year’s singles Who Said and Wake Me Up, Plæygirl marks a fresh direction for MØ’s signature dance-pop sound. Written between Copenhagen and Los Angeles with producer Nick Sylvester and longtime collaborator Ronni Vindhal, the 12-track album is a celebration of authenticity and freedom.
“I just wanted to make music that was true to me – music that feels free,” MØ shared. “I feel like I’m standing in front of a new era.”
The album’s lead single, Sweet, is out now. Featuring a guest appearance from pop-soul sensation Biig Piig, the track is a buoyant, synth-driven anthem that captures MØ’s unapologetic individuality. With lyrics like “I don’t go to clubs / I go to comic cons and thrash metal shows,” the song is a rallying cry for outsiders everywhere.
“Sweet is a fun and sweet song wrapped into a mean bass synth riff,” MØ explained. “It speaks to the feeling of being an outsider but embracing that as part of who I am. I don’t enjoy going to clubs! I like playing The Sims, going to punk and metal shows, and spending time with my friends and family. I think a lot of people can relate to that.”
She added, “Biig Piig is the perfect complement to what we’re trying to do and say with the song.”
Plæygirl promises to be MØ’s most personal and daring project yet. Don’t miss it – pre-save the album and stream Sweet now.
