Julien Baker and TORRES Announce Collaborative Album Send a Prayer My Way

Indie-rock powerhouses Julien Baker and TORRES (Mackenzie Scott) have joined forces for their first collaborative album, Send a Prayer My Way, set to release on April 18 via Matador Records. The announcement comes alongside the release of their heartfelt new single, Sylvia, and its accompanying music video directed by Caity Arthur.

The album marks a stylistic shift for both artists, leaning into a country-inspired sound. Sylvia, the latest single, is a tender ode to Torres’ beloved dog and the profound bond between pets and their owners. “The morning I went to pick up my dog Sylvia from an upstate shelter, I turned on WFMU, and Dolly Parton’s Cracker Jack was playing,” Scott shared. “I burst into tears—it felt like the universe was telling me she was going to be mine. I wanted to write a song that people could feel in their chest within five seconds of turning on the radio.”

The collaboration between Baker and Torres has been years in the making, with the seeds of Send a Prayer My Way planted as far back as 2016. The album features 12 tracks, including last year’s debut single, Sugar in the Tank, which the duo performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

For Baker, this project adds to an already impressive résumé, following her Grammy-winning work with Boygenius (The Record and The Rest) in 2023. Meanwhile, Torres’ most recent solo album, What an Enormous Room, was released earlier this year.

To celebrate the album’s release, Baker and Torres will hit the road for a series of festival appearances, including Big Ears in Tennessee, High Water Music Festival in North Carolina, and Green River Festival in Massachusetts.
