Dawn Richard teams up again with multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer Spencer Zahn for their second collaborative album, Quiet in a World Full of Noise, dropping October 4 via Merge Records. The dynamic duo’s lead single, “Breath Out,” is out now and it’s everything you need to hear today. “Breath Out” single was produced by Spencer Zahn and written by Dawn Richard. It also features the Budapest Film Orchestra.

Quiet in a World Full of Noise follows their 2022 hit album Pigments. The creative process for this new LP started last year in upstate New York. Zahn began with eerie, spacious piano tracks, and the very next day, Richard transformed these into melodies and lyrics through a stream-of-consciousness approach. "I did not write this down—I purged it out, and then I didn’t change anything after it," Richard reveals, underscoring the raw emotion and healing behind the music.

Featuring Bryan Senti on strings, CJ Camerieri on brass, and the 26-person Budapest Film Orchestra, this album promises a rich, reflective soundscape. "Everyone’s a little bit overwhelmed right now," says Richard. "I hope that this will be the record people put on when they need stillness in their lives, now more than ever."

“Breath Out” perfectly captures this ethos, with Richard singing, “Time to let go now / You can breathe out,” ending on a haunting piano note. It's a track that embodies emotional release and reflection, making it a must-listen.

Tour Dates Announced

In support of the album, Richard and Zahn have announced a series of tour dates. Dawn Richard will perform solo in England on July 11, 12, and 15. The duo will then appear at the Merge 35 Festival in Carrboro, N.C. on July 27. Their North American tour kicks off on October 22 in Minneapolis and will include stops in Milwaukee, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, and Boston. The tour wraps up with a performance at the London Jazz Festival on November 16.
