Music fans are buzzing after Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande’s recent Q&A at a Wicked screening. Could a long-awaited collaboration be on the horizon?

Billie Eilish hosted a special Q&A with Ariana Grande following a Wicked screening at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles. The event, exclusive to Academy and guild members, gave the two artists a chance to discuss Wicked, their careers, and their longtime admiration for each other.

Grande, who plays Glinda in the film, admitted she personally requested Eilish as the interviewer but never expected her to say yes. “She’s too busy, too fabulous,” Grande joked. Eilish, a self-proclaimed fan, recalled commenting on Grande’s YouTube videos as a teen, saying, “I used to call you ‘Ari’ to my brother, and he’d be like, ‘You don’t know her!’”

Ariana’s Intense Wicked Audition

During the discussion, Eilish asked about Grande’s audition process for Wicked, which was anything but easy. Grande revealed she had to sing four songs—“No One Mourns the Wicked,” “Popular,” “The Wizard and I,” and “Defying Gravity”—before earning the role. “My final chemistry test was three hours long,” she shared. “By the end, I was a basket case.”

Eilish praised her dedication, saying, “You earned it, dude.” She also admitted she was thrilled when she first heard Grande had been cast. “I didn’t even know you then, but I was so excited,” Eilish said.

Live Singing & A Future Collaboration?

Grande also detailed the challenges of singing live on set, something Eilish initially doubted. “I got into an argument because I didn’t believe it was possible,” Eilish admitted. “Then I saw the movie, and it’s amazing.”

Before the night ended, audience members encouraged the duo to sing together. While they declined an impromptu duet, Eilish teased, “I would love to do that.”

With Ariana nominated for an Oscar and Billie fresh off a Best Original Song win, fans are hopeful that a studio collaboration is next. Social media has already exploded with memes, theories, and dream setlists. Could 2025 be the year of a Billie x Ariana track?
